Sometimes, Delia thought that she and Alanna were more similar then most people gave them credit for. She had helped Alanna breathe in the convent, when the feelings of being trapped had grown too much. Delia had been able to help, because she knew exactly how the other girl felt.
Delia still felt trapped, but she and Alanna seemed to have grown...distant of late.
Which was why the slender lady was walking in the snow-covered gardens; dressed in pale grey for mourning with a long, heavy cloak and with her two children. Alcander was quiet today, sticking by her side with his small hand in hers, but Melisende?
"Mamma, can I see this garden?"
"Darling, it's starting to snow."
"Please? Please, mamma?"
"Melisende..." The little girl glared at her mother, green eyes flashing in her little face. "Can I open the door, then?" May asked after a moment's thought. Delia was a bit too distracted to notice the moment of sheer cunning.
"If you want to..."
"Yay!" And with that, May skipped over to the door leading back into the palace, and opens it...
